Audra's versatility and breadth in her career as an artist is unmatched. Audra has received six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award. She has been a six-time record winner of the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards as well as one Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. Because of her beautiful tone, and her unrivaled ability of telling dramatic tales, she has found success in Broadway and in the opera as well as for television and film. As well as the stage roles, McDonald has earned a name for herself in a professional career that is a major recording and concert career. She regularly performs at top places. She was born into a musical family. McDonald lived in Fresno California and received her singing training in the classical style at New York's Juilliard School. The year 1994 was the year after she graduated from Juilliard School, McDonald was awarded the Tony Award for "Best Performance of a Leading Actress musical" for her performance in Carousel. In the following four years, she took home two additional Tony Awards for the category of a featured actress. She was in the Broadway premieres Terrence McNally's musical Ragtime as well as Terrence McNally's play Master Class in 1996. The result was an astonishing amount of three Tony Awards by the time she was thirty. In 2004 she was nominated to win her 4th Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her fifth Tony and her first nomination in the Leading Actress category was awarded to her for her portrayal as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In her role as the Tony Awards' most decorated performer, she had the chance to set Broadway historical records when she won her sixth Tony Award for playing Billie Holiday as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill. This role also provided the platform to make her Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. First actor given awards in four distinct acting categories, McDonald set a record for the total number of awards that an actor has won. McDonald has also been featured in other theatre productions which include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) Twelfth Nigh (2009); it is her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical Sense of 1921, and all That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald's debut as a dramatic television actor was in the Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say The Delany Sistersthe First 100 Years. Then, in 1999 she appeared alongside Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the Disney/ABC television version of Annie. In 2000, she played a recurring on NBC's popular show Law & Order Special Victims Unit. McDonald received the first Emmy for her performance on her role in the HBO version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols, starring Emma Thompson. In 2003, she returned to the screen, this time with Mister Sterling produced by Emmy Award-winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr., which starred Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries, a WB TV show, debuted in the year 2006. McDonald then appeared as the privilege of playing a regular role in NBC's Kidnapped in the year following. McDonald won a 4th Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill on HBO in the year 2016. The Bite was a six episodes pandemic-themed drama created in collaboration with Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. She first appeared on the show as U.S. attorney Liz Lawrence in 2009 on CBS's legal comedy The Good Wife in 2018 McDonald reprised the part (now named Liz Reddick) as a season regular of The Good Fight on Paramount+ receiving three Critics Choice Award nominations for her role. She is currently a guest star in Julian Fellowes' historical drama The Gilded Age, which airs on HBO.
