Awkwafina
American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly songs that dealt with racial identity and sexuality with an incisive and humorous perspective, before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants was her very first musical experience. She played the trumpet. The classical, jazz, and hip-hop training began as she was a teenager. When she was in high school, she concentrated on women's studies and journalism. She was also a student of Mandarin for a while in Beijing. Her focus shifted to music once she graduated. Her 2012 track My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success through the Internet before settling on her debut LP Yellow Ranger in 2014. The album featured other hit songs that went viral, such as the body-positive Queef as well as the cheeky hometown tour NYC BitcheUSD. The latter song was linked directly into another venture Awkwafina's NYC a travel guide published in 2015. Alongside having published a book and a singer, she was also a professional as a singer. In addition to early shows like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films such as Neighbors to Storks. In 2018, her breakthrough performances included Dude Ocean's 8, as well as Crazy Rich Asians. The EP came out in June.
